people are so ignorant about the Naga of northeastern India. The paintings are inspired by the ceremonial costumes of various Naga groups -- in the above paintings these are from Tangkhul and Angami groups. Yes the elaborate head dresses do sometimes remind one of the American Indian head dresses. The artist has answered the query in any case.

I am a gun activist, and I will agree with you that a school shooting is completely fucked. Now the most purchased and favored rifle in this country just happens to be an ar-15, yes an American made assault rifle. I was coming back from a gun shop with a friend after I had purchased around a hundred rounds of ammuntion for my ar-15. He had said wow you really could kill alot of people with that rifle, I agreed and started saying how millions of men and women in our country own one of these so called killing machines. It says something when millions

Hello all,

I'm an English permaculturalist and I've just moved to Japan. I now live in central Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi Prefecture). I dearly want to make contact with fellow permies in Japan, but I've only just started to learn Japanese!

I did my PDC in 1989 with Andy Langford and Graham Bell in Scotland. I was a trustee for the Permaculture Association (Britain) for twelve years and have been teaching with Graham Burnett, Nicole Freris and the rest of the Naturewise crew in London for the last ten years. Now I'm keen to get involved with teaching and designing here.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cheers all!

Canada - etymology:
means: "going to China" or "route to china"

-ada is a suffix, has a definition: "going towards"
cana at the beginning of Canada is "China".
Italians pronounce "Cana" as "Chana".

The old explorers referred to the islands of the Caribbean as "west indies" - believing they were in the southerly latitudes of the northern hemisphere in the vicinity of India.
ergo, to reach China, they would sail more northerly latitudes and bump into the North American mainland.

The city of Lachine in Quebec indicates that they believed they were near China.

Designing the Optimal Open Access Mandate

As the number of Open Access (OA) mandates adopted by universities worldwide grows it is important to ensure that the most effective mandate model is selected for adoption, and that a very clear distinction is made between what is required and what is recommended: By far the most effective and widely applicable OA policy is to require that the author's final, revised peer-reviewed draft must be deposited in the institutional repository (IR) immediately upon acceptance for publication, without exception, but only to recommend, not require, that access to the deposit should be set immediately as Open Access (at least 63% of journals already endorse immediate, unembargoed OA); access to deposits for which the author wishes to honor a publisher access embargo can be set as Closed Access. The IR's "fair use" button allows users to request and authors to authorize semi-automated emailing of individual eprints to individual requesters, on a case by case basis, for research uses during the embargo. The adoption of an “author’s addendum” reserving rights should be recommended but not required (opt-out/waiver permitted). It is also extremely useful and productive to make IR deposit the official mechanism for submitting publications for annual performance review. IRs can also monitor compliance with complementary OA mandates from research funding agencies and can provide valuable metrics on usage and impact. (Mandate compliance should be compulsory, but there need be no sanctions or penalties for noncompliance; the benefits of compliance will be their own reward.)

Thanks Michael! I am still troubled, somewhat at where this line of thinking can go, and more so, because of how unpopular it is to express this form of thought!

Thanks for taking this up. As a male, I certainly wouldn't be able to have this conversation.
I don't agree we have a double standard for fundamentalism among Caucasians/Christians vs Multicultural/Muslims. I think we are way too tolerant of fundamental "Christian" beliefs too.
As you point out, we tolerate oppression of nuns, pedophilia of young women in "Bountiful", and the like.
I'll go further, as a bar-mitzvah'ed jew. We tolerate unreasonable limits on freedom of speech and attacks on what people can say from the Israeli fundamentalists too.
(They aren't Jewish fundamentalists. In my opinion they idol worshipers)

The problem was best summed up by guy-who-got-crucified-for-asking-us-to-be-nice:

"Let he without sin cast the first stone"

Or, it's the multicultural tolerance question: am I allowed to be intolerant of intolerance? If so, how can I live with myself?
(Does the set of all sets contain the set of all sets?)

So multiculturalists (and that is probably the highest moral group in Canada...) live in a kind of fake self-esteem that is now so common among pampered children.
